ISWAP Fighters Ambush Military Convoy in Borno, Allegedly Abduct Serving General

Date:

Reports emerging on Friday night indicate that fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched a deadly ambush on a Nigerian military convoy in Borno State, resulting in the abduction of a serving military general and the killing of several troops, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to credible information obtained by HumAngle, a platform known for its in-depth coverage of conflict and humanitarian issues across the Sahel, the senior officer said to have been abducted is a brigade commander who was at the front of the operation when the insurgents struck.

If officially confirmed, analysts say this would mark the first known incident in Nigeria where an extremist group successfully captured a serving General directly from the battlefield. While insurgent attacks on senior military officers have been recorded in the past, outright abductions of such high-ranking personnel remain exceedingly rare.

Sources indicate that the militants staged the ambush along a vulnerable axis in Borno, overwhelming the convoy and inflicting significant casualties. However, as of press time, details of the exact number of soldiers killed or injured remain uncertain.

The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts by CoolNews.ng to obtain clarification from the Army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Onyechi Anele, were unsuccessful, as she has not responded to inquiries on the matter.

The situation remains fluid, and CoolNews.ng will continue to monitor developments as more verified information becomes available.
