BREAKING: Ex-minister, Audu Ogbeh, dies at 78

Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh, a distinguished Nigerian politician, farmer, and playwright, has passed away at the age of 78. His family announced his peaceful demise on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Born on July 28, 1947, in Otukpo, Benue State, Ogbeh’s life was marked by significant contributions to Nigeria’s political and agricultural sectors.

Ogbeh’s political career spanned several decades and included key positions such as:

  • Minister of Communications during the Second Republic under President Shehu Shagari (1982–1983).
  • National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2001 to 2005.
  • Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2019.

Beyond politics, Ogbeh was a passionate advocate for agricultural development and rural empowerment. He was also a literary figure, having written several plays, including the acclaimed Epitaph of Simon Kisulu, which was staged at the Muson Center in 2002.

As of now, the family has not disclosed details regarding the cause of death or funeral arrangements. Further information is expected to be released in due course.
