The Ekiti State Government has approved a number of major initiatives covering judicial infrastructure, digital connectivity and inclusive employment as part of efforts to improve governance and public service delivery in the state.

The decisions were taken at the sixth meeting of the Ekiti State Executive Council in 2026.

A major highlight was the approval of N3.005 billion for the construction of a new High Court Office Complex within the premises of the Ekiti State High Court of Justice in Ado-Ekiti.

The new complex is expected to address the shortage of office accommodation and court facilities, particularly following the recent appointment of five additional High Court judges in the state.

According to the government, the facility will comprise additional courtrooms, judges’ chambers and supporting offices, with the aim of improving the working environment and strengthening the administration of justice.

The project is to be executed by Axial Nigeria Limited through the Direct Procurement method and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Ekiti Targets Additional 160km Fibre Infrastructure

The Executive Council also approved measures aimed at deploying an additional 160 kilometres of fibre-optic infrastructure across the state by the end of 2026.

The decision followed the adoption of the report of the EXCO Committee on Fibre Infrastructure.

The committee noted that Ekiti had about 331.7 kilometres of fibre deployment in 2022, with an additional 105.96 kilometres recorded in 2026.

The latest expansion is expected to help the state meet the applicable SABER benchmark and strengthen its eligibility for performance-based funding.

The Council also directed relevant authorities to position Ekiti to benefit from the Federal Government’s Project BRIDGE initiative, while existing government-related fibre infrastructure is to be assessed to ensure effective utilisation.

Government Employs 30 Persons With Disabilities

In another significant decision, the Council approved the employment of 30 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) into the Ekiti State Public Service.

It also directed the strict implementation of the five per cent employment quota reserved for PWDs under the Ekiti State Disability Law in all future recruitment exercises.

The government said the policy was aimed at promoting equal opportunities, inclusive governance and greater participation of persons with disabilities in public service.

The three decisions highlight the state government’s stated priorities of strengthening judicial institutions, expanding digital infrastructure and promoting inclusive development across Ekiti State.
