The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has published a list of 122 universities approved to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Nigeria, warning that only graduates from CLE‑accredited law programmes will be eligible for admission to the Nigerian Law School.
In a public notice dated August 14, 2026, the Council told prospective students, parents and other stakeholders that any university admitting students into an LL.B programme without CLE approval would be acting contrary to the rules governing legal education and could face sanctions. The notice was signed by Aderonke O. Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration.
The CLE said the list, published “for the guidance of the public,” will be updated as necessary. It also identified several universities placed under moratorium on admission into their LL.B programmes for specified sessions.
Universities placed under moratorium
– Baze University, Abuja — three‑year moratorium covering 2023/2024 to 2025/2026 sessions.
– Lead City University, Ibadan — five‑year moratorium covering 2023/2024 to 2027/2028 sessions.
– Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil — two‑year moratorium covering 2024/2025 to 2025/2026 sessions.
