The Ekiti State Government, through the Ministry of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with MSI Reproductive Choices, on Tuesday joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 2025 World Contraception Day with a sensitization campaign across the state.
This year’s theme, “A Choice for All: Agency, Intention, Access,” emphasizes individual rights to make informed reproductive health decisions and underscores the importance of access to quality family planning services.
Speaking during the event, the Family Planning Coordinator and Health Promotion Officer, Dr. Busayo Ige, said the initiative aims to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted and that individuals are empowered to make informed choices regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
Dr. Ige highlighted that the Ekiti State Government provides free family planning services in all public health facilities — including tertiary, secondary, and primary health centres — to ensure that no woman is denied access due to financial constraints.
She further explained that proper use of contraception not only promotes bodily autonomy but also creates opportunities for education, career advancement, and overall economic stability.
> “Sensitizing people on proper use of contraception fosters empowerment through education and open dialogue, while addressing barriers to accessing reproductive health services,” Dr. Ige said.
The health expert urged women and couples across the state to embrace reliable family planning methods, citing benefits such as prevention of unintended pregnancies, reduction in unsafe abortions, improved maternal and child health, and support for economic growth.
