RENOWN  SOCIO-CULTURAL GROUP “G32 CONNECTS COMMENDS PRESIDENT TINUBU FOR THE NOMINATION OF EX-VC OF FUOYE FOR AMBASSADORIAL POSITION. URGED SENATE TO CONFIRM THE APPOINTMENT WITHOUT WASTING TIME*

A prominent sociocultural group in Ekiti state, the G32 social connect has commended President Tinubu for the nomination of the ex vc of Fuoye Prof Sunday Abayomi Fasina for Ambassadorial position. According to the President, Engr Ruben Adeagbo, Fasina has attracted over 1billion Naira infrastructural projects to FUOYE via institute of Part Time Studies. Engr Ruben maintained that the administration of Fasina in Fuoye has contributed immensely to the development of many communities in the state. He stated that his prowess of grassroots development will go along way to boost Nigeria image wherever he is posted hence he encouraged the senate to expedite action on his confirmation and shun all the campaigns of calumny against a noble, achiever and lover of outstanding performance..

Ruben further stated that Fasina has the gift of assembling teams that can perform and deliver his mandate at any given time. Of a good note was the appointment of the Acting Director of the institute of Part Time Studies (IPTS), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Associate Professor Omolade Adeleke who midwife the Institute of part time studies which today is one of the hallmark of Fasina Administration. According to him Fasina has attracted over one Billion Naira (N1000,000, 000) infrastructural projects to the University by encouraging robust partnership with host communities through the establishment of the lnstitute of Part Time Studies (IPTS) of the University.

Established in 2021 under the administration of Prof. Fasina, the FUOYE IPTS was put in place to provide alternative admission opportunities for the teeming population of admission seekers who yearly subscribe to the University.

Engr Ruben who stated that his interactions with former director of the IPTS in 2024 when he was seeking the establishment of a Satelite campus of Fuoye in his community stated that he was very impressed with the way Fuoye has contributed immensely to the development of communities like ire Ekiti, Ayegbaju, Ifaki , Ayedun and Ikole Ekiti via the establishment of Satelite campuses of part time program in these communities. Speaking further on the achievements of FUOYE lPTS, Dr. “Adeleke, Engr Ruben quoted Dr Omolade as follows; “FUOYE moved from the rank of 13 to the fourth most subscribed University in Nigeria according to thr ranking by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) in 2025

“In the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB, more than 50,000 applicants picked FUOYE . Meanwhile, the quota we have for admission through UTME was less than ten thousand and the implications is that 40,00 students would not be able to gain admission into our University. This is why Prof Fasina felt that we could create an alternative avenue for students who are interested in coming to FUOYE by establishing the lPTS.

“We started in 2021 and we sought approval from NUC , we got approval for 16 academic programmes and admitted less than 2000 students. From that humble beginning , our student population is now above 6000. Ayegbaju-Ekiti was our first mini campus but now we are in four suburbs in Oye Local Government Area that aren’t too far away from one another as they surround our main campus in Oye-Ekiti.,” he said.

Commenting on how the lPTS has developed, he said: “Despite the paucity of funds, the institute has been leveraging on support from the host communities. From initial 16 academic programmes in 2021, we have 24 programmes now and all are approved by the NUC. We are running these programmes in a stable academic calendar.

“In terms of our staff, I want to tell you that lecturers teaching our students are also the same lecturers appointed on full time to teach the full or regular students. They are not from outside. In a case where we have lecturers from outside, they are less than 2% of the total number of our lecturers. There is also no difference in the teaching curriculum for our students compared to the full time students, only the duration varies in some of our programmes. We have also started using the CCMAS the way they have started it for the full time students. This is why we are reputed for academic excellence. This Directorate has been rated among the best in the University. God has been helping us with the support of our able Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina. Our achievements are numerous. The purpose for having this institute is dual.. First is to generate IGR for the University and second is to maintain high and sound academic standard. We have to balance these two scales and ensure that one doesn’t adversely affect the other. As for offering standard and quality education, we have been scored high. NUC has assessed us two times and they were satisfied. I can tell you that there have been a number of times that our students in Part time have competed with their counterparts in full time and they have performed even better than those in full time. As for the IGR generation, currently, our institute remains the highest IGR generating unit of the University. The support that Prof. Fasina gives to the institute has enabled us to collaborate with host communities to develop education.
Engr Ruben further quoted Omolade as follows “Let me put it on record that Prof. Fasina has attracted infrastructural structures worth 1billion Naira through the institute to the University. We have a campus in Ayedun-Ekiti, it was renovated by Hon. Akin Rotimi. The partnership of the University with the community ensured that the campus remain one of our best now , with recreational facilities, CBT centre, houses, borehole, lecture halls , the campus alone worths over 500 million. In lre-Ekiti campus,l, all the facilities there are donated by the community. There is also a CBT centre at the lre campus donated by Aare Akomolafe Adebayo in 2023. It is worth over 150 million. It has 275 laptops. Its CBT centre is one of the best in the country and it has been accredited by JAMB . It was used for UTME last year and this year, it has been cleared for use for UTME. It is equipped with state of art facilities. Its well equipped public library donated by Chief Ajayi alone is worth N55 million Naira.

Fitting further projects, he said: ”
If you go to our campus in lkole-Ekiti, it is also one of the best . Barrister Mayode Filani, an illustrious son of the community, gave us 20 plots of land for erecting our campus there. We have the landed property in the heart of lkole township . We got there in 2022 and he renovated the uncompleted buildings on the land. In two months, we had 200- capacity lecture hall, and another 300- capacity hall built by him. We have honoured him with the edifices. Another illustrious son of the town, Hon. Owolabi also reached out to us and built four lecture halls; 300-capacity each. He went ahead by building a borehole for us and also toilet facilities for both male and female, six for both sexes. He also did perimeter fencing and landscaping for the halls. The worth of the campus in lkole-Ekiti alone is above 450 million.

In lfaki-Ekiti mini campus, the community has also partnered with us to develop the mini campus. They renovated two lectures and had spent about 50 million to do this. In Ayegbaju-Ekiti, this building in which we are talking was donated by the students body and the IGR of this institute. The worth of this building is about N40 million. All these remain the legacy of Prof. Fasina. The lPTS has remained a landmark achievements of Prof. Abayomi Fasina’s administration.

“This is why I said that Prof. Abayomi Fasina has attracted projects that worth over 1billion for the University through the institute of part time studies. I believe that other Universities should be able to emulate this great gesture in University administration . This is how we can bring host communities to develop our Universities. About 70 or 80 % of the facilities we have in the institute today were donated by the host communities. And we have the hope that more donors are still coming .in lre-Ekiti an individual in the community singlehandedly donated one 18-seater but to the institute. We are joining the league of reputable Nigerian universities that are running the part time programme today. Arguably, we are the fastest growing Part Tine institute in Nigeria. All the Universities we met in the business, we have overtaken them. For instance , Ekiti State University (EKSU) that is many years older than FUOYE cannot even boast of the population of part time students that we have . By God’s grace, in the nearest future , FUOYE will be among Universities having most robust Part Time programmes. We would be able to rob shoulders with the University of lbadan and Obafemi Awolowo University that have very robust part time programme in the country.,” he said proudly.”
Finally , on behalf of the G32 connect , a noble social club in Ekiti state with the core mandate of community development, Engr Ruben thanked President Tinubu for this great initiative of nominating Prof Sunday Abayomi Fasina for the Ambassadorial position and also urged the senate to expedite action on his confirmation.
