Alleged Missing ₦387m: Distractors’ Lies, Smear Campaign Against Prof. Fasina’s Sterling Feats — Dr. Adeleke

Former FUOYE Part-Time Director Gives Detailed Clarification, Debunks Sahara Reporters’ False Claims

The immediate past Acting Director of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Institute of Part-Time Studies (IPTS), Associate Professor Omolade Adeleke, has debunked as false, misleading, and mischievously sponsored the allegation by Sahara Reporters and other online outlets that ₦387 million was missing from the University’s coffers.

In a strongly worded rebuttal made available to CoolNews.ng on Wednesday, Dr. Adeleke dismissed the publication as a smear campaign designed to discredit the performing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, and the University’s outstanding record of growth and accountability.

“The so-called audit report quoted in the publication is outdated and has since been reviewed, corrected, and reconciled. The University’s audit unit has given us a clean bill of health,” Dr. Adeleke asserted.

A False Narrative from Outdated Documents

Sahara Reporters had alleged that an internal audit report exposed a missing ₦387 million from FUOYE’s Institute of Part-Time Studies and that a group, Concerned Citizens in Ekiti State, had petitioned the Minister of Education to probe the Vice-Chancellor and Governing Council.

Dr. Adeleke, however, explained that the referenced document was an early working draft that had long been superseded by a comprehensive, corrected version after clarifications and documentation were provided to the Audit Committee.

“They were talking about student debtors of ₦27 million and differences in fee calculations. But they failed to understand that student numbers change across sessions. Some drop out, others convert to full-time studies. It’s impossible to have the same population from year one to final year,” he clarified.

He noted that the figures were misinterpreted and that all funds from medical fees, ICT charges, and administrative costs were properly remitted or expended under approved financial frameworks.

“For example, medical fees go directly into the University’s Remita account and to the HMOs managing student health insurance. So how can anyone claim the money is missing?” he queried.

Transparency and Accountability in Operations

Dr. Adeleke revealed that all expenditures made by the Institute — including infrastructural development and operational costs — were approved by the Governing Board and captured in the updated audit report.

From administrative charges, the Institute built a ₦38.7 million administration complex in Ayegbaju-Ekiti, installed solar energy systems, and equipped offices across its five campuses.

He also clarified the issues surrounding portal maintenance and screening fees, explaining that part of the funds went to contracted ICT firms managing the Institute’s independent student portal.

“The funds were neither hidden nor diverted; they were duly approved and transparently expended. The allegations are propaganda against the good works of Prof. Fasina and the management team,” he emphasized.

Prof. Fasina’s Transformational Achievements

Observers within FUOYE and beyond have described the false report as a desperate attempt by detractors to undermine the sterling leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who has transformed the University into one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing federal institutions.

Under his administration, FUOYE has recorded unprecedented growth and reforms across academic, infrastructural, and financial sectors:

The Institute of Part-Time Studies (IPTS) now contributes the highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the University’s history, running above ₦2 billion within four years.

Through community partnerships, the Institute has attracted over ₦1 billion worth of infrastructure to the University — all at no cost to FUOYE.

These include a ₦150 million JAMB-accredited CBT Centre in Ire-Ekiti, a ₦500 million model mini-campus in Ayedun-Ekiti, and a ₦400 million campus in Ikole-Ekiti housing 10 lecture halls.

The Institute currently serves over 6,000 students, producing three graduating sets and providing access to tertiary education for thousands who would otherwise have been left out.

Several rural communities have been economically transformed into thriving academic hubs through the presence of FUOYE campuses.

These milestones, according to insiders, have made Prof. Fasina’s administration a model of innovation and transparency — qualities that have attracted envy and political blackmail from detractors who are uncomfortable with his success.

‘A Campaign of Calumny’

Dr. Adeleke described the Sahara Reporters publication as “a well-scripted propaganda to derail progress”, insisting that no money was missing or misappropriated in any unit of FUOYE.

“All our accounts are properly audited and reconciled. The so-called report being circulated is the handiwork of mischief-makers who cannot stand the level of development happening under Prof. Fasina,” he said.

He concluded by highlighting his own achievements during his tenure as IPTS Director, including the production of three graduating sets, over ₦1 billion in infrastructural investments, and the Institute’s emergence as the University’s top revenue-generating arm.

CoolNews.ng Editorial Note

Independent checks by CoolNews.ng corroborate that the Institute of Part-Time Studies remains one of FUOYE’s most transparent and rapidly expanding arms, and that no verified record exists of financial misconduct involving the Vice-Chancellor or the Institute.

While detractors continue to spread falsehoods, the facts speak louder: under Prof. Fasina’s leadership, FUOYE has become a beacon of academic expansion, fiscal discipline, and community partnership in Nigeria’s university system.
